The Office of the Auditor General is independent of government.  The Auditor General is appointed by and reports to the House of Assembly and derives their mandate, powers and responsibilities from the Auditor General Act.  Bill 90, entitled "Auditor General Act", received Royal Assent on Friday, December 10, 2010, and came into force at that time.  These responsibilities include:

  1. Issuing independent opinions on government financial reports; and
  2. Conducting performance audits on public sector operations.
